Experiencing Winter's Beauty in the Valley

If you share a love of the winter outdoors, nature and some hearty exercise, don’t hesitate to head out to the cross-country trails behind the Duck Mountain Forest Centre (DMFC), located 16 kilometres south of Minitonas.
“The area offers many kilometres of beautifully groomed trails that pass through the Boreal Forest of Manitoba,” said Spruce Products Limited (SPL) President Ward Perchuk. SPL contributes a big part in maintaining the DMFC and the area around it.
“In the winter months, the site is devoted to use by cross-country skiers. Skiers will pass along wetlands and through mature timber. One portion of the site was damaged by wind and visitors can view the timber that was salvaged and later replanted.”
The trails also feature labels for the various tree species that were planted in the area, as well as heated washrooms and a warm-up shelter on the far end of the site. The warm-up shelter was just constructed this year.
“There is no charge to use the site, although the DMFC relies on donations and appreciate any assistance,” Perchuk added.
