Tigers Dominate Semifinal Playoff

The SVRSS Tigers Football team handily walked away with a victory against the Dauphin Clippers in the Rural Manitoba Football League’s Doug Steeves division semi-finals, which consists of the top teams in the league.
During Saturday’s game (Nov. 3), the Tigers posted 50 points to the board versus Dauphin’s six. The Tigers were also leading 42-0 at the half-way mark.
“We had a very balanced offensive day,” said Tigers Head Coach Justin Petelski. “Damian Chernyk lead the way with 119 yards rushing. He had some momentum swinging runs. He started the game running hard for us and that just continued as we went.”
Petelski added that while the Tigers did score a lot of touchdowns, all of them were brought into the endzone by different players, with not one player scoring more than one. Two of the touchdowns were scored on the ground, and four through the air.
Although the late fall game saw a light dusting of snow on the ground, Petelski praised Reg and Scott Ellingson for clearing out the field, and Jim Turner for painting fresh lines.
“The weather held up, so that was great too,” said Petelski. “No injuries to deal with so all and all it was a great game.
“Dauphin was in third place and beat us by a couple of points earlier in the year, but today was our day.
“This was our best complete game,” Petelski continued. “The defence played well, the offence played well, we spread the ball around, and everyone looked like they were feeling good and having some fun. This is a great time of year to be playing your best football.”
Petelski also showed his appreciation for his fellow coaches, the volunteers, and the community for showing up to support the Tigers, despite the cold day.
The Tigers are hoping to repeat their success on Saturday (Nov. 10) against the rookie but undefeated team of the Interlake Thunder, as they play for the championship in Stonewall.
“When we played against them earlier in the year, we lost by eight points,” said Petelski. “We were missing a couple of key players for that game and I feel like with those guys, we had the opportunity to win that game.”
