Change coming to Chamber

Change is in the works for the Swan Valley Chamber of Commerce (SVCC) and the group, headed up by President Johnny Wintoniw, is seeking the use of the Town of Swan River’s (TSR) business tax to help make a bigger impact for the community.
Back on Nov. 21, Wintoniw and other representatives from the SVCC attended a TSR council meeting as a delegation to discuss a three year pilot project that would see approximately $225,000 of money earned from the currently implemented business tax be funneled to the SVCC to be used for tourism and local business support.
The funds currently go toward the TSR general revenue but the SVCC feel it may be beneficial for them to be allocated to a tourism specific board and for chamber activities, under the umbrella of the SVCC, that can more effectively provide funding for local projects and organizations.
Wintoniw was back at the council table on March 21 to follow-up on the prior delegation and to clarify any questions or concerns that council might have with his proposal.
