High flying High school rodeo action

Last weekend (June 9-11), the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association hosted the Manitoba High School Rodeo Finals at the Swan River Valley Agricultural Society grounds.
A lot of talented cowboys and cowgirls from across the province came out and the group also said goodbye to 15 graduating members.
Despite the cool and rainy weather, the participants were still able to show off their great riding skills and post excellent scores.
The high school rodeo finals was a great success this year.
“There were a lot of local people who came to watch through out the weekend, and the groups of school children were all pretty excited to be able to come out and watch the rodeo on Friday,” said Crystal Nepinak, who was one of the event’s organizers.
“They were able to talk to different competitors and high school rodeo members who explained who they were, where they are from and what events they did.
“The members showed them the gear that they use, allowed them to sit in the saddle and even talk to the bull riders,” continued Nepinak.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without all of the volunteers from the community and from various organizations who helped out.
“We have a very small committee but we got a lot of help from the Thompson crew, Della Mckay’s family, and we had lots of guys coming in to help with hauling tables, building fences and the Birch River 4H Club who helped a lot with all the clean up at the grandstands for us,” said Nepinak.
“It is really nice that one community group can work with another community group to pull this off.
“We are very grateful for our sponsors who come out year after year and we have an awesome support system,” concluded Nepinak.
“This is already our fourth rodeo and we couldn’t ask for better sponsors and community support.”
